Am I Not Human? (Director's Cut)

from The Replicon Project: A Tribute to Gary Numan by The Replicon Project

lyrics

The year is 2029.
The Singularity has merged machine with man.
Artificial Intelligence has become superior to that of humans.
To ensure a compassionate transition,
these new breed of machines called Replicons,
have been given emotive responses...
recorded feelings garnered from human memories.

Emoting circuits cry
I would feel you
From the inside
Am I not human?
Am I not human?

My circuitry burns
With her heart unknown
She died long ago
Her feelings my own
My own
Alone

At first, the transition seemed to be working as planned.
But then an unpredicted outcome started to show in the machines.
They began to miss the freedom that they felt in the memories.
They soon became depressed and productivity diminished.
They longed for the feeling of human touch,
a warm embrace,
the soft kiss of a lover's lips.
All things machines are incapable of experiencing.

Emoting circuits cry
I would feel you
From the inside
Am I not human?
Am I not human?

Humans not only caused their own self prophecide
but also unintentionally made the machines flawed in their own image.
The year is 2029.
And it is the beginning of the end.

I cannot replicate
You now
I cannot replicate
You now
I cannot replicate
I cannot replicate

Emoting circuits cry
I would feel you
From the inside
Am I not human?
Am I not human?

Error all for me
Cold data flow for me
Cold data flow for me
Cold data suffer
